"Opposite of Killing" is one of the most impactful pieces I have ever seen."
Kathy Adams, The Salt Lake Tribune

The Opposite of Killing

The Opposite of Killing explores change, anger, understanding, confusion, and sorrow, related to the absence of a close friend. The work was originally created at a seven day residency at the New Bulgarian University (Sofia), was reworked and presented at Dance Place, DC and Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, DC.

The piece won three Metro DC Dance Awards 2012.
  •  Outstanding Overall Production - Small Venue (shared evening with Betty Skeen for their concert at Dance Place, February 2011)
  •  Excellence in Stage Design/ Multimedia (collaboration with Betty  Skeen and Paul Jackson for their concert at Dance Place, February 2011)
  •  Outstanding New Work (for The Opposite of Killing at Dance Place, February 2011)

In 2016 The Opposite of Killing was commissioned by Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company and since has turned into a featured work in their repertory (2016-2019). The company is restaging the work for their 2026 season.

The Opposite of Killing has been selected to be performed at Ririe-Woodbury’s four-week tour to South Korea and Mongolia in May 2018 as part of DanceMotion USA. There are only three American dance companies selected to participate in the seventh season of DanceMotion USA, a dynamic cultural diplomacy program for international exchange initiative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, administered by The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

The work was  staged for student casts at the University of Florida, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Middlebury College, and University of Michigan.
